The first three trucks of donations received by the province of Bergamo through the territorial network of hubs left Calcinate yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 5 April), aid intended for the Ukrainian population. The departure took place from the central hub of Calcinate on the occasion of the visit of the president of the province Pasquale Gandolfi and the general director of family and associations, as well as the coordinator of the provincial table on the emergency in Ukraine, Damiano Amaglio.
The vehicles carry a total of more than 60 tonnes of long-life foods: biscuits, water, rice, pasta, milk, coffee and baby food. The destination is Romania, in particular the Caritas of Iaşi and the “Dom Polski” association in Suceava, realities which welcome hundreds of Ukrainian refugees in their structures.
The organization of the expedition took place under the coordination of Italtrans Spa in collaboration with the Italian Transport Federation (Fai) of Bergamo and thanks to the participation of three important companies in the region such as Cristinelli, Andrioletti and Soprani.
“We knew that the vehicles were to leave at the beginning of the week, it was a very pleasant surprise to see this departure which testifies to the concretization of the work that we have been carrying out for a month – comments the President of the Province -. I considered that it was essential to create institutional bridges as a guarantee of transparency and to ensure that the help of the people of Bergamo can reach where it is needed. At this stage, we considered it important to support the border territories of Ukraine, on which today the greatest load of reception of refugees and refugees rests ”.
“We are preparing to run a marathon, not the 100 meters, and I am proud of the authority with which the structure of the Province responds. The civil protection and labor market services, in synergy with the generous socio-economic fabric of Bergamo, allow us to build an interesting, solid but flexible model. We are only at the beginning but I look forward to the exciting future that awaits us,” adds Damiano Amaglio.
“These trips are the first of a long series because the generosity of the Bergamos seems to never stop. Our task is to manage this momentum with seriousness, transparency and responsibility, so that what is needed is delivered where it is needed. The added value provided by the Italtrans Spa staff at the coordination table is really decisive and we thank them warmly”, underlines Massimo Cocchi, General Director of Civil Protection.
