The 12th edition of the “Lo Spiraglio FilmFestival of Mental Health” begins. –

It is scheduled in Rome at Scena (Via degli Orti d’Alibert, 1) on April 20, 21, 27 and 28 and May 4 and 5 with the award ceremony on May 8, 2022, at the MAXXI National Museum of Arts in 21st century, the twelfth edition of “Lo Spiraglio Film Festival” mental health, an event of short and feature films, able to address the major issues of mental health with a courageous, respectful and attentive look.

The event is aimed both at an undifferentiated public of enthusiasts, and at professionals, whose commitment over the past two years, due to the dramatic events that have upset us, has been particularly intense and demanding.

Organized by the Department of Mental Health of ASL Roma 1 and by ROMA CAPITALE in collaboration with MAXXI and Scena, the cinematographic space of the Lazio region, Lo Spiraglio Film Festival of mental health, selects short and feature films on the subject, a cinema that opens the mind and which, in the intentions of the organizers, knows how to approach the world of mental health in the most varied ways and genres.

“It is difficult – underline the organizers – speak of suffering, illness, families who lose hope and who do not know how to deal with mental disorders that seem to overwhelm them.

It is not easy to look at the world of mental health, the public services, the operators who are trying to meet an ever-increasing demand with insufficient means and little scientific certainty.

Cinema points the camera without fear and has always seemed able to give meaning to these difficulties, a trait of humanity, a more distant and complex vision of reality itself.

During a career

Now over twenty years old, the actor has often given his face and his soul to agitated, underprivileged characters, marked by psychic disorders, bringing out an existential condition that is more widespread than one might think.

With a particular sensitivity, respectful of even the less edifying aspects of the characters embodied, Germano offered performances that succeeded, so to speak, in penetrating the spirit and the most intimate reflections of the roles entrusted to him, such as, to cite two examples recent, demonstrate the characters played for the Innocenzo twins in ‘Tales’ and ‘Latin America’.

During the final evening of Lo Spiraglio, Elio Germano will be the protagonist of a public meeting to retrace the fundamental stages of his artistic activity.

In previous editions, Claudio Santamaria, Saverio Costanzo, Fabrizio Bentivoglio, Anna Foglietta, Paolo Virzì, Sergio Rubini, Sergio Castellitto, Carlo Verdone, Alba Rohrwacher, Marco Bellocchio and Giulio Manfredonia have been awarded.
