The race… the longest in the world and the most participated in the world. This is the Vivicittà, a running event invented by the Uisp 37 years ago and still alive both competitively and in terms of the message that this event has wanted to give over the years. In our city we compete on Sundays, with the patronage of the Municipality and the Sports Foundation and with the support of Coop and Iren. The start, as tradition dictates, will be given live on Rai Radio 1 at 9:30 a.m. at the same world time. The race, in fact, will take place at a competitive level in about twenty Italian cities, while for the non-competitive the interested cities are about thirty. She also runs in Geneva, Saint Denis in France, Tuzla in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bordeaux, Paris and Sarajevo, not to mention the 17 prisons, including that of Reggio. Azio Minardi, provincial president of the Uisp, unveiled the first initiatives with Mauro Rozzi, president of the Foundation and Vidmer Costi of the uisp Atletica sector, also present Marina Menozzi di Iren and Stefano Ferrari of the “Clean up” association.
“Finally, we return to our colorful T-shirts and invade the streets of Reggio – said Minardi – recovering a vital element of our sociability and, after these two very difficult years, of our original message ‘sport for all’. This year the event takes on an even more current and urgent significance with the unanimous demand to stop the sound of arms and violence in Ukraine.” “At the competitive level, the competitive course will be 10 kilometers – Costi declared – and will be part of the 2022 Grand Prix circuit which therefore has races all year round”. The appointment is Sunday morning at 8 a.m. in Piazza della Vittoria with a departure at 9.30 a.m. to run or walk with the Vivicittà t-shirt. Those who opt for the recreational motorized ride can choose between 1.8 – 2.8 – 5 and 10 km routes.
On the 10 kilometers, the agonists with the usual international ranking compensated. Registration until shortly before departure. In addition to the third edition of the Dog Run in which owners will be able to run or walk on a 3 km path starting at 9 a.m., this year a particular initiative is included in the Vivicittà.
“Yes – says Stefano Ferrari of the Clean Up Association – we will leave the Court with several volunteers for what is now called plogging. We will all be equipped with a garbage bag and running we will collect them and clean at least one strip of the city, arriving in the square with our “loot”. At 10 a.m. there will also be a waste gymnasium, to make the youngest aware of selective collection, but always playing”. Throughout the morning of Sunday, Piazza Martiri del 7 Luglio will be the scene of entertainment and activities for children. About fifty schools of all kinds have already registered, starting with kindergartens, with special prices for all groups.
