In addition to local sport, which since last September has begun to appear with continuity and consistency on our pages, Sul Panaro srl – destined to be an editor, in this case – has recently entered the panorama of national sports journalism thanks to a new original product which launched its website on March 5: it is sports light (www.thesportlight.net), publication of in-depth, critical and sports policy registered in the National Registry of Periodical Press of the Court of Modena.
The creators and creators of the magazine are the professional journalist of Arezzo Francesco Careman – who is the responsible director – and the colleague Lorenzo LonghiSanfeliciano and already, at the time, one of the founders of Sul Panaro which today, through the publishing house, supports The SpoRt Light in certain bureaucratic aspects.
But what is SpoRt Light? “This is a publication that embraces the philosophy of slow journalism – explains Caremani, former contributor to some of the most important national newspapers – and applies it to sports journalism. We have chosen our path: not the beating drum of news, but a more reflective and analytical journalism. Concretely, this means that, each week, The SpoRt Light takes care of a subject treated in a monographic way through three long articles which analyze it from different points of view: it is sports journalism that respects complexity and restores it by rejecting any divisive reasoning. With the monographs, The SpoRt Light hosts a column called Stielike every Tuesdaywhich traces what has been good, bad and bad over the past week, and welcomes the interventions of some important columnists every Thursday who decided to accompany us and whose collaboration we are honored. For example, the Olympic cycling champion and former candidate for the presidency of Coni writes to us Antonella Bellutiwho animates the column “The sixth circle”, the sports historian Nicolas Sbetti (“One straight leg”) e William De Feislecturer in cultural intelligence at the technical center of Coverciano”.
On Saturdays, at 9:15 a.m., the week of The SpoRt Light is summarized in a newsletter in which, in addition to summaries of monographs and the launch of chronicles, there is also an anthology of sports articles (but also books, podcasts, series) considered interesting and some job offers in the field of sport. In short, a complete product with its own decidedly characteristic philosophy.
The business model is also different from most other sports magazines. “By working on analytics rather than minute by minute, we are not interested in appearing first on search engines and have chosen not to host advertisements. We are not working on large numbers but on an idea of community that has a critical mass: for this reason The SpoRt Light is chargeable, but we have chosen to offer packages at popular prices. Three packages are available, all annual: 30 euros, 54 euros and 72 euros per year, plans that entitle you to different opportunities (https://www.thesportlight.net/abbonati). That too is a choice.”
You can subscribe at this link (https://www.thesportlight.net/abbonati) via the German platform Steady, which takes care of the administrative aspect and is a guarantee in terms of payment security and confidentiality. The SpoRt Light has indeed a double office in Arezzo and lower Modena: “Lorenzo Longhi and I have shared part of our professional journey since we both collaborated for the magazine twenty years ago reverse shot, a weekly born at the time of the homonymous transmission of Mediaset. The estimate continued over time until, a few years ago, we considered the project. It’s been a long gestation, but now we’re here, for the sake of consistency too: if you’re criticizing a certain sports journalism, you should at least try to come up with something different.”
