When sport is about inclusion and breaking down the barriers between sport and disability is always a success. This is the only case in sport where all the participants truly win. In Menaggio and Tremezzina from March 18 to 20, the 1st Sporting Fitness Trophyevent promoted by the CSI of Como with the contribution of the Lombardy Region and with the valuable collaboration of the Social Cooperative Azalea, the committees of Lecco, Varese and Cremona and some of the main sports clubs in the center of the lake and the valleys: Asd Lenno , US Tremezzo 1914 , Asd Lariointelvi, Canottieri Tremezzina and Asd Hakuryu.
They were sports, friendship and inclusion days which involved more 35 disabled children coming from some centers and associations of the province of Como and Lecco but also from many athletes, leaders and coaches of local sports clubs. The initial idea was simple: organize sports workshops and inclusive tournaments in which disabled children and able-bodied people could play together and discover together the beauty of sport. And so it was. The 1st Sport Ability Trophy provided participants with pleasure, emotions and new friendships and enabled the creation of a network between TSA, associations and institutions to promote inclusion and social cohesion through sport.
The event opened on Friday March 18 with the conference “Sport and inclusion. Good practices and comparative experiences”. The primary school of Menaggio hosted the meeting which saw the participation, among others, of the world champion of Handbike Roberta Amadeo and some associations dealing with sports for the disabled.
Saturday afternoon space for sports workshops at the municipal sports center of Lenno. Judo and karate, but also rowing and athletics, football and cycling; many sporting disciplines for all tastes which involved boys and girls with disabilities who already practiced sport, but also those who had not yet experienced any sporting activity and who, thanks to this moment of share they got involved by going beyond their own limits and unleashing their potential.
On Sunday March 20, the event ended in style with the mixed volleyball tournament and the table tennis competition. There is also a lot of participation walk on the Tremezzina Greenway, the spring day and the enchanting setting of the Lario made it a memorable moment. After the lunch offered by ASD Lenno, all participants received the well-deserved prize from the hands of world champions Roberta Amadeo and Pietro De Maria.
“The moment of the award ceremony was really exciting – says Chicco Bianchi, sports activity coordinator of the CSI of Como – the smiles of the boys and their joy in lifting the trophy to the sky made us realize how much this event was special. Really playing sports is one of the best ways to get involved. the 1st Sporting Fitness Trophy it was the culmination of a series of initiatives promoted in the territory on the subject of disability, but it is also and above all the beginning of a path that aims to give life to inclusive sports opportunities. We left and we don’t stop.” Bianchi also highlighted the fundamental contribution of local institutions and associations: “Not only sports clubs but also municipalities from Tremezzina and Menaggio, Panathlon, Pro Loco and Alpine Groups supported and supported us in the organization of the event. We have successfully teamed up to raise awareness and promote inclusion. The road is marked out, all that remains is to move forward in this direction”.
