“With the pandemic, mental health problems in children: sport helps”

The last friendly Rotary Club Camerinoorganized by President Stefano Re, had as its theme “Sport as an educational and social vehicleAnd given the presence of numerous and qualified speakers, starting with Filippo Persichetti, psychologist, expert in youth and inclusion issues, then continuing with the testimony of athletes and coaches. “Based on the data provided by the research carried out by the Department of Epidemiology of the Lazio Health Service – said Persichetti- The pandemic was found to have caused mental health issues in boys and teens, such as anxiety, depression and social isolation. Suffice to say, studies conducted from 2019 to 2020 found that access to child neuropsychiatry services for self-harm increased by 59%. On the other hand, the beneficial effects of physical activity have been demonstrated which, by increasing the production of the Ace 2 enzyme, also acts as a protective factor against Covid. Sport then reduces anxiety and depression, increases self-esteem and the ability to overcome obstacles and barriers and has always represented an important tool for social aggregation for young people”.
